Incident at TORONTO / BILLY BISHOP TORONTO CITY AIRPORT ON (CYTZ)

1996-08-28: The pilot (of C-GFOB) was conducting an engine run-up in the holding bay by Runway 08 at the Toronto (City Centre) Airport (CYTZ). The pilot asked ATC staff if he could taxi back to the apron due to a strange light coming off the rear of the port nacelle. Ground control advised the pilot to request assistance if necessary. The pilot parked the aircraft and was performing checks on the engine when he noticed flames coming out of the port nacelle. The fire hall was notified and responded. The entire nacelle was foamed and the fire extinguished. The fire crew could not distinguish what actually caused the fire or what was burning but mentioned that the oil cap was loose. It was noted that it didn't appear as though the actual engine caught fire and damage seemed to be minimal. Ops. impact -- none. Five (5) S.O.B. -- no injuries.
