Accident at TORONTO / BILLY BISHOP TORONTO CITY AIRPORT ON (CYTZ) (Aerodrome - operations)

Summary

1996-06-28: C-GHZL was being flown in touch-and-goes on runway 06. The aircraft bounced approximately four times and then the aircraft's nose plowed into the ground on the infield, north of runway 06, east of the DME shack. ERS responded. The pilot was not injured. Ops. impact -- a DHC-8 turning final was overshot and a Katana on ground taxied back to hangar. There was damage to the aircraft cowling, propeller and nose landing gear. Supplemental information from T.S.B. Initial Notification (#A96O0109): The student pilot was carrying out touch-and-go landings with the Cessna 150M aircraft. On one of the landings, the aircraft bounced and began to porpoise. The nose landing gear failed and the aircraft came to rest, nose down, off the side of the runway. The propeller, lower engine cowling and engine firewall were damaged. One (1) S.O.B. -- no reported injuries.
