at Muskoka, Ontario
Summary
1996-06-18: The amphibious ultralight had departed from Muskoka Airport to familiarize the student pilot with the float operations. After 20 minutes of air work, the aircraft landed on Muskoka Lake. The aircraft was shut down while the instructor briefed the student on taxi and sailing techniques. After several minutes, it was noted that the floats were sitting very low in the water. The ultralight overturned before it could be taxied to shore. There were no lifejackets or other safety equipment onboard. Both the student and the instructor were rescued by the OPP. The aircraft was recovered. The bottoms of both fiberglass floats were found to be delaminating. Ops. Impact -- unknown. From a TSB Initial Notification.
