Incident at TORONTO / LESTER B. PEARSON INTL ON (CYYZ)
Summary
1996-06-19: The aircraft (C-GNON, operating as ONT257) was near Gate 84 when a ""1-D"" was declared due to the aircraft smoking. The flight crew were in contact with the Apron Controller, who requested the emergency equipment via the hotline with the Ground Controller. The ""1-D"" was stood down at 2250Z. Ops. impact -- minimal. Damage -- unknown. Supplemental information from T.S.B. Initial Notification (#A96O0103): The DHC-8-301 was just leaving the gate and was approximately 100 feet back when the flight crew received a fire warning indication from the #1 engine. The flight crew followed the fire drill, shut down the engine and de-planed the passengers. Maintenance reported loose exhaust nuts had allowed hot exhaust gas into the engine cowling which triggered the fire warning. There was no other damage. 31 S.O.B. -- three (3) crew; 28 passengers. The aircraft was preparing to depart on an IFR flight from Toronto (LBPIA) (CYYZ) to Windsor Airport (CYQG).
