Incident at Cozumel, Mexico
Summary
1996-01-20: The crew of CMM616 had been cleared for a VOR Approach to runway 11 at Cozumel. The crew was about to contact the tower and report eight miles final when a Continental Airlines B737 contacted the tower, also indicating eight miles final. The crew of CMM616 was able to make visual contact with the B737 which was at the same altitude with less than one mile lateral separation. CMM616 completed a 360 degree turn and landed uneventfully behind the B737. The crew of the B737 indicated that they had been using 129.3 MHz, which is an unpublished frequency, prior to reporting in with the tower. Ops. Impact -- unknown. From a TSB Initial Notification.
