Incident at Sudbury, Ontario - 30 nm south


1998-02-18: Pilot called Sudbury tower, advising of smoke emanating from engine. Pilot stated intention to attempt a landing on Highway 69 south of a nearby lake. Local police and OPP were advised. Communication with C-FRGQ was lost at 2137Z. AT 2142Z, C-GJQJ (PA28) advised he was outbound to attempt to locate C-FRGQ. At 2148Z, C-FRGQ advised that he is airborne and safe, suspects simple wiring problem. Police advised. At 2207Z, C-FRGQ reports final at destination (Azilda). Ops. Impact -- none.
