Incident at Winnipeg, Manitoba


1996-12-13: The aircraft departed Winnipeg enroute Toronto 60 miles southeast of Winnipeg at FL220. The crew reported an intermittent fire warning light on the number 2 engine. The aircraft returned to Winnipeg and on a two mile final the crew shut down the number 2 engine and declared an emergency. ERS responded. The aircraft landed safely on runway 31 at 0022Z and remained on the runway until the crew were satisfied that the situation was under control and that they could proceed to the ramp area under its own power. There were minor inconveniences to a number of other aircraft. UPDATE: Company maintenance inspected the engine and found no evidence of smoke or fire. One element of the fire warning loop was replaced.
