Incident at 40 Miles W Coral Harbour, NWT

Summary

1996-12-03: Approximately 40 miles west of Coral Harbour, NWT, the pilot reported a mechanical problem. The left hand engine driven hydraulic pump for system 1 had failed. This failure did not affect flight controls and the crew diverted to Winnipeg. Due to poor HF reception, ATS initially thought that the aircraft had suffered an engine failure. At 2010Z the flight reported that both engines were running and that it had a hydraulic problem. The plane landed safely at 2218Z. TSB was advised. The failure was due to a loss of a high pressure hose and the subsequent loss of fluid.
