Incident at Winnipeg, Manitoba

1996-11-28: CWW514, a Convair 580, which was enroute Winnipeg from Hamilton at FL200 advised Winnipeg that they had a fire in the number one engine. The aircraft was approximately 85 NM east of Winnipeg. The crew declared an emergency. The engine was subsequently shut down and the fire was extinguished. The aircraft landed safely on runway 18 at 0945Z. There were 2 SOB and 3000 lbs of fuel. No other flights were inconvenienced. UPDATE: Maintenance inspection determined that there was no fire. It is possible that a loose tail pipe clamp set off the fire warning light.
