Incident at Edmonton, Alberta (ATS operating irregularity)
1996-11-05: Canadian 309 was inbound to Edmonton from Saskatoon and had descent clearance to 10,000 feet. CMM374 was outbound from Edmonton direct Dryden and then to Toronto and was climbing to FL250. Both aircraft met about 40 miles east of Edmonton with less than 1000 feet vertical and 4 miles lateral. Since the enroute Controller was looking after both aircraft the lateral separation requirement was 5 miles and at least 1000 feet. An internal investigation is being conducted.
