Incident at Winnipeg, Manitoba

Summary

1996-12-10: Shortly after departure from Winnipeg, the crew of KFA120 advised Winnipeg ATC that there was a possibility of smoke in the cabin and advised that they were returning to Winnipeg. ERS was on standby. The aircraft landed without further incident. Initial investigation indicates that an electrical fault existed in the rear washroom. There was a total of 82 passengers and 7 crew on board. TSB to update. UPDATE: Examination revealed that the florescent ballast had failed, resulting in smoke inside the light fixture. The operator plans to complete an inspection of other aircraft washrooms in the fleet and then will file an SDR with Transport Canada.
