Accident at Traverse Bay, Manitoba
Summary
1996-10-28: The Sowind Air PA31, C-GHMK, was enroute from Berens River, Manitoba, to St. Andrews. The captain diverted around several cloud buildups in which he observed lightning. In clear air near a buildup, the aircraft flew into heavy hail. The captain turned the aircraft and estimates that hail struck the aircraft for about 10-15 seconds. The aircraft was substantially damaged.
