Accident at 30 Miles Northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario
Summary
1996-11-28: The pilot of PAG82, a BE55, which was enroute Thunder Bay from Atikokan on a routine courier flight advised Thunder Bay that he had a minor electrical problem. The pilot then reported smoke in the cockpit. The aircraft disappeared off radar approximately 30 miles northwest of Thunder Bay at 1337Z. Search and Rescue has been dispatched. A Hercules aircraft from Winnipeg is searching in the Shebandowen area. There was no ELT activation. TSB are standing by as well as a Minister's Observer from System Safety. The Thunder Bay weather at 1328Z was 1 SM in mist broken cloud at 700 overcast at 3300 feet. Update to follow. UPDATE: The aircraft was found by SAR late PM 23 October, 1996. The pilot was fatally injured. The aircraft was destroyed.
