Accident
at WATROUS SK (CKU7)
Summary
1996-12-10: The aircraft had departed Estevan on a VFR flight plan to Watrous. The pilot reported that he experienced complete loss of power while on short final which resulted in a hard landing. The impact was severe enough to bend the landing gear. There were no injuries to the pilot or his passenger. Update to follow. UPDATE: About 4 miles south of Watrous the engine stopped and the pilot forced landed in a field. The landing gear was substantially damaged, the pilot had estimated that the fuel load was sufficient for 5 hours of flight. However, the engine stopped from fuel exhaustion at 3.8 hours. The pilot reported that the fuel gauge indicated that the fuel tanks were empty when the engine stopped. The pilot had aborted an earlier attempt because of weather and did not take into account the amount of fuel used during the first aborted flight.
