Incident at Vicinity of Arviat, NWT


1996-12-10: The aircraft had departed Edmonton for London, England with a fuel stop Sondestrom (BGSF). The crew of C- GBKB advised Winnipeg ACC that due to an engine failure they were diverting to Rankin Inlet where an uneventful landing was accomplished. Company maintenance are in the process of replacing the failed engine. Further information to follow. UPDATE: About 114 NM west of Rankin Inlet, the crew noticed that the starboard engine vibrated and its oil pressure dropped to zero and the ITT reading exceeded its limits. The crew secured the engine and diverted to Rankin Inlet without further incident. Company maintenance found that the number two, three and four stage turbines had sustained heavy damage and suspect a failure of the number three turbine wheel.
