Incident at Elm Creek, Manitoba

1996-09-05: The Air Tractor AT-401 aircraft, C-FJBG was being used for aerial application and the pilot was completing the final pass on a field. Nearing the end of the run the pilot began his pull-up and then noticed a powerline immediately ahead of him. Although the pilot attempted to avoid the wire, the aircraft struck the wire and severed it. The uninjured pilot flew the aircraft to a nearby private airstrip and landed without further incident. Inspection revealed minor damage to the aircraft in the form of wirestrike marks on the engine cowling, pushrod cover, and the top of the left wing. It was reported that the powerline poles were obscured from the pilot's point of view during the application run by an area of trees.
