Accident at Matheson Island, Manitoba


1996-08-15: It was reported that the BN2 (Britten-Norman Islander) C-GMOW, departed Bolton Lake for Matheson Island. The aircraft was empty and was flying at 6500 feet. There were patches of ground fog enroute. The left engine started to run rough and lose power so the pilot applied carburetor heat. The engine continued to run rough so the pilot feathered the propeller. Then the right engine began to run rough and lose power and carb heat had no effect. The pilot landed on a roadway on Matheson Island. The wing tips were damaged when they struck trees along the side of the road. No fatalities or injuries. TSB is investigating.
