Accident at Pickle Lake, Ontario
Summary
1996-12-10: The pilot of C-FPFR, a Cessna Skyhawk (C172), was upside down between taxiway B and the runway in a ditch. The pilot reported that the accident was caused by a cross wind and the location of the ditch. There was damage to the propeller, tail section , wing strut etc. There was one SOB on board - no injuries. The arrival of another aircraft was delayed approximately 5 minutes, the runway and taxiway are serviceable. UPDATE: The pilot was attempting to land the C172 on runway 27 at Pickle Lake when a loss of directional control occurred. The aircraft departed the right side of the runway, hit a ravine (ditch) and over turned. The pilot was uninjured, the aircraft however, was substantially damaged. The 1500 CDT reported winds were from 200 degrees at 15 gusting to 26 knots. The pilot reported that at the time of the landing the winds were 90 degrees to runway 27.
