Incident at REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN

Summary

1996-12-10: The aircraft was enroute Hamilton from Calgary at flight level 310 when the crew declared an emergency and squawked 7700. The crew reported smoke in the cockpit and began a descent into Regina. However, while on descent the smoke cleared and the crew elected to continue to Winnipeg. Emergency response at Regina was cancelled. The aircraft landed safely at Winnipeg at 0628Z. The electrical problem was apparently caused by the autopilot. Maintenance are in the process of determining the cause and rectification of the system. UPDATE: Company maintenance personnel confirmed that the problem had been limited to the auto pilot control head and associated lighting components. All cannon plugs to the unit were disconnected and the aircraft was released in accordance with MEL limitations, to continue on to Hamilton, and the flight was conducted without further incident.
