Incident at SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN (ATS operating irregularity)
Summary
1996-07-23: Air BC967 (DHC-8) departed runway 27 at Saskatoon IFR to Calgary. Moments after departure the crew called Winnipeg ACC and inquired about an aircraft that had just gone by them. The aircraft in question, a PA28-140 (FURZ) was inbound to Saskatoon from the northwest. The active rwy was runway 33; FURZ had been radar identified and was pointed out to the tower by the Saskatoon TCU. The pilot of FURZ had been advised by Saskatoon TCU to expect the Air BC967 departure of off runway 27. The aircraft passed at approximately 4 NM of the airport. The separation that existed at the time the aircraft passed each other was .76 of a mile. IFR separation was not lost. VFR control tower operation is investigating.
