Accident at KYLE SK (CJB8)

Summary

1996-07-03: The pilot and only occupant of the spray equipped Pezetel Dromader began his departure from runway 26 at Kyle, Saskatchewan. The load was a mixture of Buteril and Achieve which was approximately 465 US gallons. The pilot reported that shortly after lift-off a loss of lift caused the aircraft to strike a slough and then hit a ditch which caused a tire to blow. The aircraft then landed in a field and groundlooped causing substantial damage to the wing. The pilot did not jettison the load. Warm temperatures and a cross wind component may have contributed to the lack of performance.
2013-03-12: UPDATE from TSB REPORT: A96C0113: THE PILOT OF THE M-18, DROMADER WAS TAKING OFF FOR A LOCAL AERIAL APPLICATION FLIGHT. WHEN HE RAISED THE TAIL DURING THE TAKE-OFF RUN, THE PILOT REALIZED THAT HE WAS AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY. HE MANAGED TO GET THE AIRCRAFT INTO THE AIR MOMENTARILY HOWEVER IT SETTLED INTO A SLOUGH OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO CONTINUE THE TAKE-OFF AND WAS ABLE TO FLY OUT OF THE WATER AND THEN STRUCK AN EMBANKMENT WITH THE LANDING GEAR. THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED INTO A FIELD AND GROUND LOOPED. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED; HOWEVER, THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE HAD LOADED 465 US GAL OF SPRAY AND HAD ABOUT 120 GAL OF FUEL. THE WIND WAS A LIGHT CROSS WIND AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS REPORTED TO BE ABOUT 20 DEGREES.
