Incident at Red Lake, Ontario

Summary

1996-06-16: The aircraft departed Cochenour Seaplane Base for Sandy Beach Camp which is located on Trout Lake, 35 miles east of Red Lake. Shortly after departure and while climbing to altitude the pilot advised Thunder radio that due to smoke and an engine problem he was returning to Cochenour. However, the pilot was forced to land on McNeely Bay due to a fierce fire which totally consumed the aircraft. The pilot was able to land the aircraft and evacuate the passengers before anyone was injured. The pilot received burns to his arm and face. TSB are enroute. Update to follow.
