Incident at 40 NM South of LaRonge, Sask


1996-06-06: The crew of Westwind1100, a Cessna 401 departed Points North Landing IFR to Saskatoon via La Ronge at 7000 ASL. At approximately 1640Z when the aircraft was 40 miles south of La Ronge the crew reported a near collision with an opposite direction VFR aircraft at 7000 ASL. The crew of Westwind 1100 advised that the other aircraft came within a 1/4 NM of his aircraft. It was determined that the other aircraft involved was a PA22 Piper Tripacer that was proceeding from Saskatoon to La Ronge VFR at 7500 feet. The pilot of C-GXRF reported that he had just commenced his descent for La Ronge and was leaving 7200 feet when he observed the C401 pass 300 yards off his right side. Investigation of frequencies is on going. Update to follow.
