Incident at Red Lake, Ontario

Summary

1996-05-29: The pilot of the float aircraft called up OT FSS 10 minutes out of Red Lake, Ontario. After missing his ETA twice he admitted that he was lost. He tried his ADF but had trouble receiving; attempts to establish position with the VOR were not successful. He climbed to approximately 6000 feet to try for a transponder/radar position. This was also unsuccessful, however, he was able to track his ADF into Red Lake. The pilot had been getting assistance and advice from the FSS operator for approximately an hour. The pilot landed with an estimated 15-20 minutes of fuel left.
