Incident at Winnipeg, Manitoba

Summary

1996-05-10: The crew of Kelowna Flightcraft (KFA584), a Convair 580, advised ATC that they were shutting down the number one engine. The aircraft was 10 miles southwest of Winnipeg inbound from Saskatoon. ERS was notified and the aircraft landed safely on runway 36 at 0321Z without further incident. There were two souls on board. UPDATE: A subsequent inspection by the company revealed that the pitch lock regulator of the left propeller had failed. This component failure caused the propeller to move toward fine pitch. As the propeller pitch decreased, the fuel topping governor activated to prevent an overspeed condition.
