Incident at Thompson, Manitoba

1996-05-09: The aircraft departed Thompson IFR for Norway House. Shortly after take off the crew advised Air Radio that due to a throttle linkage problem they had shut down and secured the left engine. The crew then advised Thompson that they were returning and asked for ERS to standby. An uneventful landing was accomplished without further incident. TSB will update. UPDATE: Subsequent maintenance inspection revealed that the intake manifold had become disconnected thereby reverting the engine to a non-turbocharged mode. It is suspected that overpriming during start up caused excessive back pressures in the intake manifold thereby dislocating the mainfold ducting.
