Incident at Kenora, Ontario

Summary

1996-03-14: Perimeter 83, a Beech 55 Baron, departed Fort Frances IFR to Winnipeg on a routine bag run. Perimeter 81, a Beech Travelair, departed Kenora IFR to Winnipeg on a routine bag run. At 0116Z both pilots advised ATC that they were declaring an emergency due to heavy icing and were descending and returning and diverting to Kenora. Perimeter 83 descended to 3000', conducted a full approach and landed safely at 0134Z. Perimeter 81 descended to 2700' and did a straight in VOR approach and landed at 0142Z. Both aircraft were placed in the hangar and the crews spent the night in Kenora. A SEGMET was issued 1 1/2 hours after the aircraft landed in Kenora.
