Incident at KIPLING SK (CKD5) (Aerodrome - visual aids)


1997-06-06: The pilot and only occupant of a wheel equipped Cessna 172 reported that he was unable to activate the arcal lighting at Kipling Saskatchewan. It was further reported that the aircraft touched down on the north side of runway 27, the aircraft then veered, struck a snow bank and came to rest on the runway surface. The aircraft suffered a bent propeller and substantial damage to the left wing. The pilot was uninjured. This was a culmination of a VFR flight which originated at Prince Albert with an enroute stop at Regina. TSB are investigating the occurrence. The Airport Manager and the owners of the aircraft Centennial Flight Centre report that the arcal lighting system was tested and appeared to be working normally. Further information to follow.
