Incident at Wabush

Summary

1996-12-19: Remarks: Vehicles on RWY less than 5 min. before arrival. Estimate from Moncton Center of 2230. Moncton Center then revised ETA to 2214z. ARN 805 called Wabush at 2202z and gave an estimate of 2218. The approach advisory was given and the crew said they would call closer in. At 2212 ARN 805 reported by DUDNU (11 DME on the localizer) he was asked what his ETA was and advised that there were vehicles on the runway. At this point the equipment was instructed to exit the runway due to the inbound aircraft in 2 min. When ARN 805 reported the WK becon final (5.9 DME) he was told the vehicles were still on the runway. He asked if they were exiting and was told they were still moving to Taxiway "B". They reported off Taxiway "B" just as ARN 805 reported 1 mile final. At that time ARN 805 was advised the vehicles were off the RWY and continued to land. After taxiing in, the pilot made the statement " That was a bit close" then asked what ETA the FSS was using. The ETA used was the last one reported by ARN 805 (2208). TSB no involvement.
