Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ) (ATS operating irregularity)
Summary
1996-12-19: An Air Canada A-320, ACA615, was cleared to taxi for departure on RWY 15 with instruction to hold short of RWY 15. The pilot read back hold short of RWY 24 instead of RWY 15. The readback error was not detected by the tower controller. As ACA615 taxied onto RWY 15 an Air Atlantic Dash 8 , ATL471, was in take-off position on RWY 15 and was cleared for take-off. The tower controller upon observing ACA615 enter RWY 15, immediately cancelled the take-off clearance for ATL471. ATL471 had not started the take-off roll. NAV CAN will be doing an internal investigation. TSB closed.
