Accident at STEPHENVILLE NL (CYJT)

1996-12-09: Aircraft was landing in Stephenville NFLD following a flight from Grand Rapids, Michigan. The aircraft was conducting an approach on runway 28. After reporting on final approach, contact with the aircraft was lost. During a search of the airport the aircraft was discovered to the right of the runway, destroyed, following impact with the ground. Update: Initial information has led investigators to believe that the ILS and all Nav Aids were in the ""green"" and the ILS approach was performed normally to minimums but on short final the crew may have experienced some trouble with ARCAL (rapid clicking of the mike switch was heard). There was a possible tire touch at 1800 feet down the runway with tire tracks for about 1600 feet off to the right and at about forty five degrees to the direction of the runway. It appears he may have touched his left wing tip then his right wing tip, hit a clump of trees, then rolled to an inverted position and came in contact with a hummock at which time the aircraft came apart.
