Incident at Moncton ACC & Gander ACC (Communication navigation surveillance/air traffic system, Aerodrome - power failure)
Summary
1996-08-15: 0235Z majority of Gander ACC landline circuits unseviceable. Newfoundlland Tel reported fibre optic circuits cut in Nova Scotia in three places affecting 89 percent of the circuits to and from Newfoundland. Lost Preswick data link temporarily until switched to the 503. Lost the Moncton data link. Unable to contact Moncton ACC on commercial or cellular phones and weather circuit was also affected. The main concern for Moncton and Gander was the flight plans not getting to Moncton ACC for the traffic westbound. Alternate route arrangements were made and the Gander link restored at approximately 1000Z
