Incident at Halifax, N.S.


1996-05-29: While still in the climb after departure from Halifax, the #3 engine started vibrating. The crew shutdown the engine and returned to Halifax. The aircraft landed safely with ERS on standby. Maintenance examination identified that a blade had ruptured on the #3 engine second stage turbine wheel. The failure was contained and the engine was replaced before returning the a aircraft to service.
