Accident at FRENCH CREEK-30 N OF NANAIMO

Summary

1995-10-31: Nanaimo FSS received a call from Canadian Regional 1213, (CDR1213), relaying a "MayDay" call they had heard on 122.1 - "Mike Yankee going into the water". CDR1213 received nothing further and could not establish communications with the aircraft. The "MayDay" call was not received by the FSS. and they did not have any record or information on this aircraft. The "MayDay" information was relayed to the RCC. At 0025Z, the RCC advised the aircraft was C-FMYY, a homebuilt, and had crashed into the water off French Creek. The RCMP were on the scene and advised that the pilot and passenger had waded ashore with no injuries. The ACC were advised. Weather at YCD (Nanaimo) was VFR and should not have been a factor.
