Incident at VANCOUVER INTL BC (CYVR) (Conflict - potential)
Summary
1995-08-05: The First Air B-727 departed Runway 26 at Vancouver with reduced speed (180 KTS) for noise abatement. The United Airlines B-737 departed shortly after the B-727, and climbed at a higher speed, so gaining on the B-727. The departure controller turned the B-737 to the right to avoid the B-727. The two aircraft came within less than three miles of each other. TC has not classified the incident as an Operating Irregularity, and is not conducting an investigation. Vancouver Tower reports that their procedures have been reviewed, and that increased departure separation is being used until the operation is clarified. No damage, no injury.
