Incident at Toledo, Ohio (U.S.A.)
Summary
1997-07-22: On approach to Toledo (from Montréal (Mirabel) International), the flaps were selected down. During the extension, the flaps stopped prior to the desired setting, followed by a flap asymmetry indication. The crew continued the approach and carried out an uneventful, flapless landing with ERS standing by. After landing, the aircraft was towed to the ramp because the higher touchdown speed had resulted in hot brakes due to heavy braking. Maintenance reported that the failure of the flap follow-up cable led to the consequent flap failure. An erroneous transmission of the actual flap position resulted in a false asymmetry indication. An SDR on the incident has been filed with TC by the operator. From a TSB Initial Notification.
