Incident at Timmins, Ontario

Summary

1997-07-22: The helicopter was lifting off from the pad when at 20' AGL, the pilot heard a loud noise followed by a loss of power. The pilot carried out an autorotation but the skids were damaged. The operator was going to carry out the appropriate repairs, conduct a hard landing check as a precaution, and to verify that there was no other damage. The engine was removed and shipped for overhaul. The operator did not determine what caused the loss of power prior to shipping. Ops. Impact -- unknown. From a TSB I.N.
