Incident at HAMILTON ON (CYHM)
Summary
1997-05-02: The Aviation International (Canada) Inc. aircraft (C-GQNE) was on a training flight near the Hamilton (Mount Hope) Municipal Airport (CYHM). The pilot broadcast a MAYDAY message on 121.5, reporting a forced landing in a field, two (2) S.O.B. R.C.C. Trenton staff notified O.P.P. dispatch. Hamilton tower, Toronto ACC, Boston ARTCC and Kitchener tower staff all responded. Hamilton tower identified the location as six (6) miles southeast of the Hamilton (Mount Hope) Municipal Airport. R.C.C. Trenton staff dispatched both a C130 Hercules aircraft and a Labrador helicopter. At 1905Z, the pilot came on the frequency and stated she was conducting practice forced landings and had inadvertently broadcast on 121.5. There was no difficulty with the aircraft. Ops. impact -- some ATC search efforts and R.C.C. response.
