Incident at Timmins, Ontario (Communication navigation surveillance/air traffic system, ATM - NAVAIDS/radar)

1996-07-17: Major micro-wave failure which resulted in YMO RCO U/S; YAT RCO U/A; YMO AWOS not reporting; YMO MO YAT Nav-aid monitors U/S; YTS ATC 428/hot line U/S; and all telephone lines to destinations north of Timmins U/S. Ops. Impact -- some flight delays into Moosonee experienced due lack of weather information, remote airport advisory service not provided, remote vehicle airport advisory not provided, enroute advisory for the upper coast not provided, weather briefings to coastal settlements not provided, one aircraft departed Moosonee for Attawapiskat only to return after finding out that his destination airport was closed by NOTAM.
