Incident at Thompson, Manitoba
Summary
1997-03-27: The Merlin 111A, C-GWKA, had departed Thompson, Manitoba enroute Norway House on a medevac flight. Shortly after take-off the crew observed a decreasing oil pressure indication for the left engine. The crew shut down and secured the affected engine and returned to Thompson for an uneventful landing. Subsequent investigation by Company maintenance revealed that a gearbox chip detector probe failed, thereby facilitating the loss of engine oil. The probe was replaced and the aircraft returned to service. An SDR will be submitted.
