Incident at Lake Superior 4858N 8745W, Ont
Summary
1997-03-27: Lost aircraft C-FSGA, a Cessna 180 Floats. The aircraft was enroute from Simpson Island (east of Terrace Bay) to Thunder Bay and encountered deteriorating weather. The pilot was unsure of his position and landed on Lake Superior at position 4858N 8745W at approximately 2345Z. The pilot radioed he had successfully landed but after 20-25 minutes he advised the aircraft overturned due to wave action. He activated his ELT and a SAR Hercules and 2 Marine auxillary vessels were involved in the searching for the aircraft. Both occupants made it safely to shore and were picked up in the morning by a Coast Guard helicopter. The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating.
