Accident at 1 MN of Nipigon, Ontario


1996-03-21: The pilot with one passenger departed from a private grass strip. The pilot elected to use 1000 ft of a 2000 ft runway available. Shortly after take off, the aircraft struck shrubs and tag alters which bordered the runway. The aircraft continued and crashed into heavy timber. The pilot was uninjured, his passenger suffered a bruised and swollen ankle. The aircraft was substantially damaged. Update: The aircraft had taken off with 500 ft remaining, struck shrubs at the end of the runway and crashed into mature trees 300 ft off the end of the runway. The pilot reported a downdraft had affected climb performance.
