Incident at La Ronge, Saskatchewan (ATS operating irregularity)
Summary
1997-03-21: C-FAWP a C402 was enroute La Ronge from Meadow Lake. The aircraft was conducting an IFR approach to Rwy 17 to cross outbound at 6000. ABS125, a company 200 Series Beech was cleared to depart La Ronge for Prince Albert to maintain 5000. This clearance was predicated on a departure from Rwy 17. Because the clearance did not specify a runway and the winds were calm, the crew elected to depart from Rwy 35. Although separation was proven to exist south of La Ronge, there was no assurance that this would occur and as such safety was jeopardized. ATS are conducting a fact finding board.
