Accident at Alert-102 NM NW
Summary
1997-03-21: The De Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft, C-FASS, was landing on the sea ice. After touchdown the crew experienced some difficulty engaging reverse thrust. The delay in engaging the reverse thrust mode resulted in a longer-than-intended landing roll and the aircraft climbed a small pressure ridge in the ice. The surface irregularity caused substantial damage to the aircraft's stabilizer, belly skins, and nose and main skis. The stabilizer was replaced and the aircraft was ferried back to the operator's maintenance facility for repair.
