Incident at Stony Rapids, Saskatchewan
Summary
1997-03-21: While conducting a ground handling exercise on a Cessna 185 the pilot trainee lost control. The aircraft ground looped causing a gear leg failure and minor propeller damage. Neither pilot was injured. The pilots had not requested a traffic advisory from the remote (North Battleford) FSS as the aircraft was not being manoeuvred with the intent to fly. Initial radio contact was made to advise the FSS that the aircraft was disabled and was blocking runway 06/24 at the mid point. A NOTAM was issued.
