Incident at 56.13N 55.58W Gander Oceanic


1997-03-18: Aircraft was on an IFR flight Plan from BGBW (Narsarsuaq Greenland) to CYYR (Goose Bay Labrador) at Flight Level 200. N4733K advised Goose Bay FSS, through relay by another aircraft, that they had a rough running engine and that they were descending. FSS was in direct contact for a period of time while the aircarft was descending. Eventually the aircraft descended below radio range of the Hopedale RCO. However the aircraft did remain in contact by relaying with other overflying aircraft. At 14:57Z, the relay aircraft indicated that N4733K was ditching at coordinates 56.13N and 55.58W (130nm North East of Makkovik Labrador). At that point the relay aircraft lost contact. Search aircraft in the vicinity of Goose Bay were rerouted to the scene. As of 19:00z 95/10/24 search was ongoing.
