Incident at Gander,40nm West
Summary
1997-03-20: The Shorts, C-GLAT, was descending through 5000 feet, in cloud, when they entered an area of moderate to severe turbulence. The pilot attempted to notify the flight attendant (FA) but did not receive a reply. A passenger eventually contacted the flight crew and informed them that the FA had been thrown against the ceiling and was injured. A passenger who had first aid training, secured the FA in a seat and the aircraft landed without further incident. The (FA) was taken to hospital for examination. She was badly bruised and had some torn ligaments in her neck. TSB closed.
