Incident at 13 NM NE Calgary

Summary

1996-03-08: The Airbus was on descent to 7000 feet on approach into Calgary when advised of VFR traffic at 11 o'clock position, altitude unknown. The descent was checked at 8000 feet. The crew of the Airbus spotted the VFR traffic, a PA28, level at 8000 feet and immediately initiated a climb. They did not receive a TCAS warning until after the climb was initiated. The traffic reportedly passed within 1/2 mile of the Airbus.
