Summary

1997-11-07: A BROKEN SATELLITE LINK CAUSED THE LOSS OF RADIO-TELEPHONE COMMUNICATIONS NORTH OF CHIBOUGAMAU AND THE LOSS OF RADAR FROM BREVOORT AND SAGLEK. WHEN THE OCEANIC TRAFFIC WAS VERY HEAVY A/C WERE REDIRECTED AND DOMESTIC TRAFFIC FROM IQALUIT AND KUUJJUAQ WAS GROUNDED. A LOSS OF SEPARATION BETWEEN 2 A/C WAS ALSO CAUSED. THE SATELLITE LINK WAS REESTABLISHED AT 0145Z BUT THE TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS WERE MAINTAINED FOR THE DAY IN CASE OF ANOTHER BREAKDOWN. TIME = 1734Z.
