Accident at VANCOUVER INTL BC (CYVR)

Summary

1997-03-13: Just after lift off from runway 12 on an IFR flight to Tofino, the cabin air stair door opened and tore away from the lower attachment. Still tethered to the aircraft by the handrail chain assembly, the door struck the aircraft several times, substantially damaging the left horizontal stabilizer and elevator, ventral fin and fuselage. The pilot made an emergency return and landed on runway 12 without further incident with the door tailing behind. One passenger was injured by a part of the door when it opened.
